The Scorpio Races

The Scorpio Races is a fiction novel that doesn't really fit into one set category. It has two main characters telling their stories at the same time. The thing that their stories have in common, is they both have to ride in the Scorpio Race, which named after the ocean it is run beside. Though they have different reasons, they both need to win. It is an exciting book and is very original. There's nothing like it. The author did very well on taking a myth that isn't very popular and turning it into something that seems so real. It isn't like most fantasy novels but it isn't really a drama either. More like a little bit of both. It doesn't have unicorns and dragons and vampires, so if that's what you are looking for, this might not be the book for you. What it does have is the mythical creature Capaill Uisce or water horse. They are vicious meat eating horses that spring out of the ocean around the same time every year (November) and just cause trouble. If you typically aren't a fantasy book fan, don't turn away from this book based on that fact only. It is very fascinating and very addicting. There were times when I was so tuned into it that I couldn't hear someone talking to me, even though they were sitting right beside me. I would highly reccomend it to anyone that even slightly likes the creative side of fantasy and the tense side of drama put together. Honestly, I loved it. It is definatly worth a second read.

The Outside of a Horse

The Outside of a Horse is a novel about a girl who loves horses. Her father was in the army, but got sent home because he had his leg amputated. He now has to get used to his new prosthetic leg, and the fact that he is no longer in the war, which puts strain on the family. The girl eventually gets a job at the stable down the road. She then befriends a rescue horse that comes to the stable and the two of them deal with their own fears and hardships together. The author did very well at making the reader feel everything that the characters felt. It makes you look back on yourself and wonder 'could I have lived with that?' or 'what would I have done in that situation?' The story is sad but inspirational. It sends a message that you can achieve anything if you put your mind to it, and to never give up even though the odds are stacked against you. It was well written and I really enjoyed it. I would recommend this to anyone who likes the more realistic fiction books. If you are a horse fanatic, you will probably love this book.

A Willing Heart

A Willing Heart is the first book in the historical romance series Souls of Indenture. It is a fiction novel set in the 1600's, where a young woman is kidnapped from the streets of her hometown in England, and brought to the United States on an indentured servant ship. She ends up being bought, not to be a servant, but a wife. The author doesn't go into excessive detail when it comes to the romance, which makes it a good read for anyone who likes romance but not 'too much information'. The historical aspect of the book was well researched and even if you went into the book knowing nothing of how they spoke a few hundred years ago, you understand it completely.  When I picked it up, I just couldn't put it down. Because of that, it only took me a few days to finish it. The book keeps you on the edge of your seat and on the verge of crying at the same time. You end up laughing and being sad with the characters. I would definitely recommend this book to any fan of this genre.
