The Scorpio Races is a fiction novel that doesn't really fit into one set category. It has two main characters telling their stories at the same time. The thing that their stories have in common, is they both have to ride in the Scorpio Race, which named after the ocean it is run beside. Though they have different reasons, they both need to win. It is an exciting book and is very original. There's nothing like it. The author did very well on taking a myth that isn't very popular and turning it into something that seems so real. It isn't like most fantasy novels but it isn't really a drama either. More like a little bit of both. It doesn't have unicorns and dragons and vampires, so if that's what you are looking for, this might not be the book for you. What it does have is the mythical creature Capaill Uisce or water horse. They are vicious meat eating horses that spring out of the ocean around the same time every year (November) and just cause trouble. If you typically aren't a fantasy book fan, don't turn away from this book based on that fact only. It is very fascinating and very addicting. There were times when I was so tuned into it that I couldn't hear someone talking to me, even though they were sitting right beside me. I would highly reccomend it to anyone that even slightly likes the creative side of fantasy and the tense side of drama put together. Honestly, I loved it. It is definatly worth a second read.
